Fintech Learning Program

A 27-hour onboarding system designed to simplify complexity and scale education across a growing fintech team

The Challenge

A fast-growing fintech company was onboarding employees at scale—but with no structured training in place. New hires were struggling to connect to the company’s culture and systems, and internal teams lacked time to explain the complex landscape of financial infrastructure, regulation, and product development.

Function + Form was brought in as part of a newly formed L&D team to co-create a complete onboarding program that could educate, align, and retain employees—especially those without prior industry experience.

What Function + Form Did

As co-designer on the project, Function + Form supported the creation of a comprehensive 3-month onboarding program that blended regulatory education, company systems, and industry knowledge into a clear, digestible structure.

Our Contributions:

  • Co-developed a 27-hour learning experience inside the company’s LMS

  • Designed content architecture for 27 topics across finance, fintech, regulation, and internal systems

  • Built modules using a variety of formats: interactive lessons, quizzes, glossaries, talking-head videos, and knowledge checks

  • Created branded content templates and communication materials to introduce the program company-wide

  • Collaborated with senior leadership and subject matter experts (SMEs) to validate and streamline complex inputs

Why It Worked

Function + Form helped translate dense, high-stakes content into a guided learning experience that supported both regulatory needs and user experience.

With limited SME availability and time pressure, we leaned on instructional UX and creative thinking—designing a system that made employees feel confident, informed, and engaged from day one.

Bonus? Sharon drew on her own background at the Chicago Board of Trade (and the childhood card game Pit) to influence light gamification and conceptual storytelling throughout the experience.
